Dr. Bahati Boniface Kaluwa (38) died in Dar es Salaam on the 4th December, 2013 after a long illness. Dr. Kaluwa was a Research Scientist with National Institute for Medical Research since 2008 and Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator of the HIV Vaccine Trial based at Mbeya Medical Research Centre since 2010. Dr. Kaluwa was a holder of MD of the University of Dar es Salaam (2004) and MPH (International Health) of the Nottingham University, United Kingdom (2010). Dr. Kaluwa will be remembered for his immense contribution as data abstraction team leader for the Global Fund Five Year Evaluation Project and in the HIV vaccine trials in Tanzania.
Before joining NIMR, Dr. Kaluwa worked as counsellor and educator with Tanzania Youth Alliances (2004-2005); Intern Doctor with Ministry of Health at the Muhimbili National Hospital (2005-2006); Youth Reproductive Health Consultant for United National Children’s Funds (2006-2007); and as general practitioner at Furaha Medical Paediatric Clinic (2007-2008)
Before his death, Dr. Kaluwa was a PhD candidate with the Centre for International Health, University of Munich, Germany.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Grace Quorro and two children, Abigail (4) Ian-Benson (3).
